Christmas Season
Thursday, 06 December 2007

Christmas is almost here again, and soon everyone will be decorating their houses and businesses to express their holiday cheer. Christmas decorating can be a daunting task for some, and a lot of people don't have any clue how they should decorate, especially if it's their first time decorating for Christmas. There's the roof, stairs, living room, bathrooms, front lawn, and a whole bunch of other places that you'll want to make alive for the Christmas season. I'm going to give you some good tips and ideas for Christmas decorating, and hopefully show you a few new things that you never thought of before.

Christmas decorating stairways can be a lot of fun. The most popular stairway decoration for Christmas is usually garland, which will make your stairway sparkle and give off a radiant sort of warmth to everyone who comes across it. Most people put their garland on their banister, which I think is a good idea (any other place, besides the railing, would probably just get in the way of things). For a more original approach to Christmas decorating I suggest putting a wreath on the horizontal rails that most stairways have, and putting some potted plants on the side of the staircase. You could get holly, mistletoe, topiaries, small cedar trees, or the most famous Christmas plant - poinsettias.

Putting mistletoe above your front door is a long-valued tradition too. It's widely known all over the world and you never know, maybe someone special will walk under it the same time as you do and that moment could change your life forever (hope for the best!). Decorating everything with bows is a very feasible option as well. You could tie them to the backs of chairs, stair railings, candlesticks, or my favorite - doorknobs. Hanging a wreath on your front door is also a widely known sign of neighborly love and tradition. I do it every Christmas.

Finally, and last but not least, there's that beloved green thing that most of us put in our living room. The Christmas tree. There's no telling what all you can do to the family Christmas tree. You can hang ornaments, lace it with garland, decorate it with multi-colored lights, and put a star or angel on the top of the tree, making it energize the entire house and making your entire family feel the Christmas spirit we've all come to love. The possibilities are endless, and you'll be decorating your tree for hours.

Christmas decorating is one of the many things that we all enjoy participating in. Sometimes we just need different ideas and tips to aid in our decorating frenzy for the holiday season...be it stairway decorating, general house decorating, or decorating our biggest Christmas tradition, the tree. Pretty soon we'll all be decorating for Christmas and when that special day comes we'll be ready to bask in the warmth and glory of the Christmas spirit.

It's almost that time of the year again where most of us want to see our kids enjoy the wondrous spirit of the winter season, like we did when we were their age. That's right, it's almost Christmas again and every parent in the United States will be clamoring to get their special little boy or girl a gift that may or may not make all their dreams come true. We would all like to see our little ones' dreams come true, which is why I'm going to share with you what I think are some of the hottest Christmas toys to get your children this year.

Two of the hottest of the hot next-generation video game systems were released last year; they are the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 3. I shouldn't discount the now two year old Xbox 360 though, which is currently being pumped out onto shelves everywhere for the Christmas holidays. Kids usually fall in love with these kinds of games, because they offer exciting new adventures that you simply can't experience anywhere else (I know, I know...it's a lot different than playing Tag and Red Rover-Red Rover, but what are you going to do?). While the Nintendo Wii is more child oriented than the other systems, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are intended for an older, more mature audience. I would recommend getting the Nintendo Wii for any child under 12, and the Xbox 360 for any child older than that (I don't recommend the Playstation 3 at all - too clunky and pricey). If your kid doesn't already have one of these systems and you get him or her one for Christmas, the excitement from your child will be overwhelming. Trust me, I've seen it numerous times and even experienced that as a kid. Your son or daughter will literally jump for joy and might even start screaming because they're so excited. These video game systems are probably the best overall Christmas toys you can buy for your kid this year, because they will last for years. Your child might even be an adult by the time these systems go out of style.

A lot of children's movies have come out in the past year. DVD versions of classics such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy, and all sorts of other Christmas spirited children's movies have been hitting the movie shelves. I count these as toys because your child will come to associate these movies with Christmas, and every time your kid watches one, he or she will instantly be reminded of the fuzzy, warm feelings they remember getting while opening presents with mom and dad. Christmas movies are also good because you and your child can just sit comfortably after all the presents have been opened on Christmas day and watch the movies while sipping on some hot cocoa.

The last of the Christmas toys that I'd recommend is something plush. We all know that kids love their teddy bears and stuffed animals, and there are sure to be a lot of Santa Claus plushed dolls and Rudolph's out there on store shelves this year as usual. Your kid will be able to sleep on Christmas night with his newly stuffed reindeer snugly tucked under his arm as he or she dreams about candy canes and sleigh rides.

These are just some of the many Christmas toys that you can get your kid for Christmas. There are going to be a lot of new things to get for your kids this year; high-tech gaming systems, movies, books, construction sets.whatever you decide to get for your child, you'll know that you did the best job a parent could, and with these Christmas toys you will show your child that you really do care about them. This Christmas could stick in their memories forever as something loving, warm, and exciting...and you can help make that happen.

Each and every year we all get enticed by that one special holiday that drives us to create and celebrate. That holiday is Christmas, and it goes without saying that every year there's another person on television or some master crafter in a magazine trying to show you how to make the best Christmas crafts for you and your family. There are all kinds of different crafts and nick-knacks out there that you can create for the Christmas holidays.

Christmas wreaths have been around for thousands of years and used by people throughout history to create beautiful works of art. My favorite Christmas wreath to make as a kid was the paper plate wreath. It's one of the most familiar Christmas wreaths for those with young kids, especially toddlers, and they're very simple to make. All you need to do is cut a hole out of the paper plate and decorate the remaining circle. I put a magnificent bow on mine (I've started making them every Christmas - it reminds me of being a kid) and glue red and green tissue paper all around it to make it more Christmas-like. These are very good to put up around the home or stick on the refrigerator, as a reminder of your and your child's talent. Making these with your kids will make their Christmas that much more enjoyable and let you spend more time with them. Who wouldn't want that?

My all time favorite of the Christmas crafts though is the candy cane reindeer. The best part about the candy cane reindeer, like all candy cane crafts, is that it's very inexpensive. You'll need to get some tacky glue, an 8 inch piece ribbon, 2 wiggle eyes, a red or brown pom-pom (for the nose), and last but not least, the candy cane itself. The cool thing about making the candy cane reindeer is that you can make dozens and dozens of them in one sitting, if you have enough material. Ornaments are the easiest of the Christmas crafts to make, however, if you're looking for simplicity.

Ornaments have been a Christmas tradition for ages now. Your Christmas crafts wouldn't be complete without at least one of these to hang from your tree. You can get ornaments at virtually any supermarket chain around the holidays, but I feel it's always better to make your own. There's a lot of clear and blank ones that you can purchase at these stores. My suggestion is to get a bunch of the clear and blank ones and get some painting supplies. You can decorate them any way you want, and put your family's names on them too. I always put the date on the ones I make so I can remember when I made it and when I pull them out of the storage box, the flood of Christmas memories relating to that particular ornament always washes over me. Sending some of the ones you make to relatives as a gift is also a good idea. The kinds of Christmas crafts you can make are limitless.

Christmas crafts are something for the entire family to partake in. Be it wreaths, candy canes, or ornaments, it doesn't matter because any kind of Christmas craft you make will be remembered by you and your family for years to come. Spending time with your loved ones by making Christmas crafts is just another way to show that you care about them, and could become a time-honored tradition in the future. Your kids may want to pass the tradition down to their kids and continue it for generations.

As Christmas time comes ever closer to you and I, we must decide on one important thing, maybe the most important decision we'll make in the coming weeks. As you might suspect, I'm referring to the yuletide tradition of Christmas trees. There are some very important details you need to know about Christmas trees before you make your purchase though, and the details spawn from this one often asked simple question: "Should I get a real Christmas tree, or an artificial Christmas tree?" I'm going to explain what you need to know about real Christmas trees and artificial ones, and help you make up your mind on which one is better for you and your family.

Of course you want the best Christmas tree possible. We all love having our Christmas trees next to the window for the entire neighborhood to awe and gawk at. Artificial Christmas trees often look just like real ones. Nine million of these bad boys were sold in 2004, up from 7.3 million in 2001. This alone might be a factor in choosing artificial over real. The more people that have artificial trees the more common it's going to be having one. One of the pros for choosing an artificial tree is the fact that artificial Christmas trees are easier to assemble and store away for later use. Artificial trees cannot and never will rot like real Christmas (pine) trees do. If you're allergic to the smell of pine, artificial Christmas trees won't bother you one bit. The biggest factor of all in my opinion is the cost. Artificial trees can save you money and time, which can be spent on more gifts for your family and friends.

Real Christmas trees however aren't all bad. Each one has that unique fresh forest scent that we all seemed to have loved at least sometime in our lives. There's also a lot of unique selections to choose from. There are skinny Christmas trees, fat Christmas trees, pretty Christmas trees, ugly Christmas trees (I don't know why you would want one, but hey - it's your choice...and that's what it's all about!), tall trees, short trees.you name it and they have it. Real Christmas trees are also the traditional choice if that's your kind of thing. The most important reason to choose a real Christmas tree though, is environmental. Christmas trees are known to take in harmful greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide and release fresh oxygen into the air.

As we all know though, with everything, there are cons to both. Artificial trees can sometimes look phony and synthetic. Real Christmas trees need constant care and maintenance. Artificial trees are made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource. Real Christmas trees are difficult to transport and dispose of after use. Artificial trees take a lot of time to assemble and dissemble.

These are just some of the important details that you need to know about real Christmas trees and artificial ones. There are various pros and cons for each and it's up to you to decide which one best fits your home and lifestyle. Whichever one you choose though, it will shine like a beacon of light in your home and give that same feeling of warmth to you and neighbors as it does every year.

People all over the world love to celebrate Christmas. Christmas parties are some of the most fun, exciting events to go to during the holiday season where you can relax and feel the loving warmth that the season usually brings from your friends, family, and neighbors. Some people don't know how to throw a very good Christmas party though, and some of them need help in organizing things and coming up with party ideas. Maybe you can make your Christmas party stand out from the rest.

One of the things to avoid when it comes to having a Christmas party is one of those sit-down dinner types of parties, because these usually lead to uncomfortable and awkward situations, and tend to be on the boring side at times. Remember, boring is the antithesis to having a Christmas party. Something I highly recommend is having a host at your front door to christen every guest with a Santa Claus hat or read something humorous about them. Playing modern day Christmas music also helps move the party along into a nice and steady flow. Games make the party flow even faster.

White Elephant is a very unforgettable tradition for a lot of people during Christmas. Be sure to make it clear to every guest that they need to bring some kind of White Elephant gift to the party for when you play the game. Games of these types, where presents are given away, are great because everyone gets their fair share of gifts. No one at the Christmas party is left out. Another favorite game of mine at a Christmas Party is Christmas Movie Trivia, where everyone at the party sits around and says a famous line from a Christmas movie, and then the person who guessed right gets to go next. This creates a warm sense of relaxation at the party and its loads of fun. You can't go wrong with games.

My most favorite thing to do when I'm hosting a Christmas party though is making a Christmas party theme. There are lots of different themes out there and the costumes and decorations are limitless. A lot of people do the first Christmas theme, where everyone dresses up like characters from the nativity story. Anything you can think of though can be done. What about an under the sea type Christmas party or a Christmas party in space theme? I'd love to go to one of those.

We all want our Christmas party to stand out in a way that will leave an impression on the people around us and have them talking about it for years to come. We want our parties to be exciting, fun, and different. If you want to have the best Christmas party on the block, now is the best time to prepare for it.

Soon another gluttonous Thanksgiving Day will pass by us and into our memories forever, followed by, in my opinion, that even better holiday; Christmas. One of the most time-honored traditions of the Christmas season is Christmas caroling. Christmas caroling is enjoyed by many different people all over the world, and families and friends will be getting together in the following weeks to sing their hearts out to neighbors and charities world-wide. However, a lot of people don't even know how to start a Christmas caroling group, or even where to get song sheets to sing off of. In this article I want to give you some basic tips on Christmas caroling and how you can make caroling a good, memorable occasion for everyone involved...singer or listener.

When you go out for a night of caroling, you want to try to invite family and friends who can sing on key. If they can't, that's okay, but make sure that they all sing in harmony and practice singing before they leave the house. Members of a singing group or church choir are perfect if you want to gather people who sing well and on key, because they already have formal singing training and can add a more positive light to your Christmas caroling troupe. After you've invited the people that you know can sing well, you'll want to invite your family and friends that you know can't sing very well. Have these people hold the candlelight vigils and books for the carolers, and make sure that they know what their role is ahead of time. Don't worry if they start singing anyway, as its all part of the fun. Some of them may just feel left out, and we don't want that to ruin their Christmas caroling experience!

You'll want everyone to have the right look for the occasion - that ?Christmas caroling' look that you see on most Christmas television shows and movies. The people that you are trying to entertain will be expecting you to give your best when you go Christmas caroling and you want to look it as well. Make sure that those Christmas caroling with you bring their favorite toboggans, mittens, scarves, and coats. Everyone should be in unison when they go Christmas caroling. When it comes to Christmas caroling, each individual member is a cog in one big Christmas Caroling machine. The most important thing you need to do before you go Christmas caroling is buy everybody that's going to be there a Christmas songbook, or have them bring their own if they have some. Not everyone knows every verse of every Christmas carol so you want to make certain that they all have a copy. No one should be left out when it comes to this or it could ruin the entire performance.

If you plan to carol outside, a good way to save some money on candle holders is poking a hole into some paper plates and using them as de facto candle holders instead. Have the candles slide through the hole in paper plate to the very top. You'll definitely want to have these candles around to provide light so your Christmas carolers can read the lyrics when it gets dark. A very important thing that I never forget is to have enough finger foods, cold and warm, with a variety of drinks such as hot chocolate and eggnog to warm up the Christmas carolers after a night of singing in the freezing cold.

All in all, these are most of the good basic tips that you need to know for Christmas caroling during the holiday season. You need to have the right supplies for everyone to ensure that everybody around you is having a great time. If you succeed in doing everything right, you should have an impact on your community and be the talk of the town for the remainder of the Christmas holidays. Just remember to be safe and prepared for colder than usual temperatures this Christmas.

Christmas will be rolling around again in the next few weeks and most of us will be buying presents for our friends and family. We want people to be happy with the gifts we give them, and this year will be no exception. Most people buy their gifts, but don't you want to do something a little bit different this year? If you want to have fun learning, creating, and making your loved ones feel special, making a homemade Christmas gift is one of the many ways you can do that. Here are some great ideas for making homemade Christmas gifts and making this Christmas one of the most original you've ever had:

Like anyone else, the first people that we want to spend our time and energy on are our friends and family. One of the easiest gifts to make for them would be an art card. You can buy a blank card or piece of paper and an envelope from nearly any store you visit. You'll want to purchase some colored pencils, markers, and crayons to decorate the card. Being able to do this with the company of someone you love is a real treat and will create a lasting memory that you can look back on and smile at.

Another homemade Christmas gift you could make is a hobby box. These are little boxes (for example, a shoe box) that you can decorate any way you want, and put little gifts inside (kind of like a stocking). You could paint it, put ribbons and bows on it, and do anything decorative to the hobby box that comes to mind. Then, when you present it to your loved one on Christmas day and they find the gifts inside, you'll know that you made their Christmas special and unforgettable.

A very unforgettable homemade Christmas gift is the hand printed dishcloth. This is especially good if you want to make your parents or grandparents feel special. All you have to do is coat your hands with paint and press them onto a dishcloth, and then let it dry. This homemade Christmas gift is so simple and a surefire hit for any family member.

These are just some of the many homemade Christmas gift ideas that you can make to spice up your Christmas holiday. Whether it's a beautiful artistic card, an eloquent hobby box, or a simple hand printed dishcloth, it's amazing what kind of ideas you can come up with for homemade Christmas gifts. Do yourself a favor and make your Christmas more memorable - make a homemade Christmas gift that will last a lifetime.

Those eagerly awaiting Christmas know that they're going to have to put up decorations again this year, and the most common of these is Christmas lights. Most people however don't know the first thing about untangling or storing their Christmas lights in a safe and effective manner. I want to teach you the basics of caring for your Christmas lights and what you can do to make your Christmas a safer holiday this year.

Untangling Christmas lights can be such a frustrating ordeal that none of us really want to do it; but in order to bring about that Christmas cheer we all try our best at untangling our Christmas lights. What you need to do first and foremost is calm down and take a deep breath. Be sure to find a relaxing spot and get comfortable; I usually do this next to my fireplace. Put on a movie or a television show to keep you from experiencing anxiety. Music is good too.

What you need to do next is rummage through your storage and dig your Christmas lights out. This can be a very frustrating experience in itself and it's best to have a friend or family member helping you out. After you get all the Christmas lights out you need to find the spot I talked about earlier and sit them on your lap. Now unplug all the connections and find a free end. Make all the knots loose and carefully wind the free end through the tangles. Don't rush or force yourself through the process. Let the untangled lights slip to the floor while taking your time and gently away from the remaining tangles on your lap. Once you get the entire string untangled, lay it out on the floor in a straight line.

When you're putting the Christmas lights away, don't try to force all of them in at once. You'll just tangle them again and that's what we've been trying to avoid all along. Wind the Christmas lights in a coil around a piece of cardboard to prevent new tangles from emerging when you start to store the Christmas lights. You'll likely end up with a lot of bundles if you only wind one strand per piece.

Safety should be your first concern when dealing with Christmas lights. We all want a fun filled holiday season and don't want to have to worry about the mess known as Christmas lights. I hope this article has helped you and I hope you have a good Christmas.

Most people are probably thinking about having a Christmas vacation this year. Children baking cookies with their parents, opening gifts and playing games, and seeing sights is what goes through the minds of most when they think of a Christmas vacation. While most Christmas vacations go as planned without a hitch, there are a variety of tips that you should know before you leave for the holidays with your family.

If you're planning to travel with your friends and family during the Christmas season, remember that it definitely pays off to be early, always. Be sure to buy plane or bus tickets early on (I'd say a few weeks before Christmas) so you won't have to worry about buying them at the last minute, when they could sell out or not have enough for you. Leaving early in the morning for your flight will help you avoid nasty traffic jams for whatever destination that you've chosen for your Christmas vacation as well.

You should probably ask what everyone wants to do during your Christmas vacation beforehand. Make sure that everybody has something special planned for the trip so no one feels left out (kids especially - have them pick their own games or events as this promotes individualism and confidence). The most important tip that I can give you is to check the local weather forecasts and conditions at your Christmas vacation spot before you decide to do anything, especially if you plan on hiking or skiing up in the mountains. Cooking for large family gatherings can be a strenuous and daunting task. If you're not the one cooking, you should help out whoever is doing so.

The last tip you should keep in mind is that all the experts who go on a Christmas vacation will wrap their Christmas gifts for the family ahead of time. If you've already picked out your destination, you should probably go ahead and ship the presents a few days before you go on your Christmas vacation so the gifts will arrive safely and without any hassle (this is if you don't want to drive or fly all that way with a bunch of presents; they may get damaged or the airport might lose them).

Everyone wants their Christmas vacation to be magical and memorable. Safety and being prepared are the two key things to having a wonderful Christmas vacation experience.  What you ultimately do is up to you but remember the single most important thing of all when going on a Christmas vacation - have fun.

Your baby's first Christmas only happens once in a lifetime - for both you and the baby. Making your baby's first Christmas perfect is a special thing that any loving parent would hope to accomplish when that fun-filled holiday rolls around sooner than expected. From the frenzy of the shopping season to the fellowship with friends and relatives, a lot of parents sometimes forget to capture the rare magic of their baby's first yuletide experience. Let's explore some of the more important things you can do to capture the memory of this wonderful event and be able to cherish it for years to come.

One of the biggest things that you can do to capture the memory of your baby's first Christmas is to get him or her a gift that recognizes that this is in fact their first Christmas. What I would recommend is a gift that has "Baby's First Christmas" written on it somewhere. There are many ornaments that can be custom made for this and even have your baby's name engraved on it. A lot of parents also get their baby new clothes that commemorate the baby's first Christmas. If you don't have a lot of money to spend, babies are generally known to love boxes covered in wrapping paper and beautiful bows. It would be a good idea to take some pictures of your baby playing with these items, as pictures tend to last a very long time.

Pictures and picture albums are one of the key things to acquire to make your baby's first Christmas absolutely perfect and unforgettable. Probably the most important picture you need to take of your baby during the Christmas season is of the baby sitting on Santa's lap. You can usually find a Santa at your local mall, and it's best for you to hold him or her during the process in case the baby gets frightened. You'll need a photo album as well to store all of your newly taken pictures. A really fun thing to do would be to have the whole family gather around and decorate the photo album with creative images of Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, etc. to make the photo album more seasonal. You could have someone filming you while you do this, creating a long lasting memory.

In this day and age of technological advances, you want to be able to make sure that your captured memories will last. Getting a video camera and a DVD recorder works wonders for this. You'll be able to capture your baby's first Christmas in a way that goes beyond mere pictures and presents. Your baby will be able to see him or herself back then years from now.

As you can clearly see, these are some of the many ways you can capture your baby's first Christmas while making the experience genuine for everyone around you. Regardless of the many methods you choose to make this experience wonderful for you and your baby, you'll be able to look back on his or her first Christmas with a sense of awe and wonder, knowing that you did everything you could to keep those memories alive for years to come.
