Anti-Aging Treatment
Saturday, 04 July 2009

A proper anti-aging treatment guide is what you need to make your skin care a success. While most women think it is more than hard work to achieve the goal of keeping skin healthy and youthful, it doesn't have to be that complicated. In fact, if you know the simple steps to having a daily skin care treatment, there won't be necessarily a need to resort to expensive procedures just to maintain a flawless skin and body.

To help slow down the effects of aging, you need to understand why the skin wrinkles, sags, and loses the vitality it possesses during youthful days. The simplest explanation for this condition is due to the fact that as the body ages, the skin cells and tissues fail to produce enough important structural proteins, specifically collagens and elastins, which are responsible for making the skin firm and elastic. Due to some damaging factors, production of these proteins slows down affecting the elasticity and firmness of the skin. Since it is these proteins which are greatly responsible in maintaining the skin, it should be these elements which should be targeted when you are undergoing daily skin care routine or anti-aging treatment.

Here are some essential points regarding the preservation and maintenance of these components to slow down if not stop the signs associated with aging. These can be considered as simple measures to preserve and maintain the glow and vitality of your skin for as long as possible.

* First of all, human body is generally comprised of 70% water. It may appear that this is a frequently used advice offered by the experts and even non-experts, but drinking enough amount of water everyday is actually fundamental. Keeping your body hydrated is one key to keeping your skin young and clean. Most experts recommend drinking eight glasses of water in a daily basis enough for a good skin hydration.

* What you eat reflects on your outer appearance. So if your diet is poor and contains mostly junks, you will notice that the skin echoes its bad results. A good diet ideal for having healthy and glowing skin must consist of more vitamins and minerals, and lots of antioxidants. You mostly get these nutrients from leafy green vegetables and fruits.

* Short exposure to sunlight can be beneficial to your health and skin; however it is different story when it is a long exposure. While sunrays provide vitamin D, too much exposure provides harmful UV rays as well; therefore becoming very detrimental to your skin. So when outside, always avoid the sunlight or use good sunscreen or sun blocks to protect your skin.

If you are going to use anti-aging treatment products or skin care routine, it is advisable that you select those that aid in the following:

* Collagens and elastics. There are anti-aging treatment products that claim they contain these two important proteins; however, this type of product is not advised since these proteins are too large to be absorbed by the skin pores. What you should choose are products that boosts production of these proteins.

* Skin nourishment. To achieve supple, vibrant, and young skin, your body must be properly nourished by a good diet and lots of water.

* Mild and natural anti-aging skin care treatment. Using mild and natural anti-aging treatment products effectively neutralize results of aging specifically premature skin aging.

If you are looking for a safe, effortless way to add to your anti-aging treatment beauty regimen, taking antioxidants is perfect for you. This substance has been validated scientifically ever since it has been put to extensive study fifty years ago. A French study revealed that women taking different antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, among others, were found to develop less wrinkles and reduce existing ones than those women who don't. This happens because according to study, antioxidants are the perfect agent to prevent the breakdown of the skin's most important structural proteins, collagens and elastins.

You can find high contents of antioxidants in foods like the following:

* Raisins

* Blueberries

* Cranberries

* Raspberries

* Plums

* Spinach

* Broccoli

* Brussel sprouts

The Vitamin C

The vitamin C is an antioxidant used by many women not only for immunity to sickness but as a significant beauty supplement. It helps in repairing damaged skin by creating collagen. It is important to note that those with lower vitamin C levels are often more susceptible to skin damage. It is recommended that a minimum of 500 mg up to 2000 mg a day is consumed.

The Vitamin A

Deficiency can result to reduced effectiveness of your skin care treatments. It can lead to different skin problems such as localized breakouts, rough or dry skin, fragile skin, poor skin texture, wrinkles, and even splitting nails. That is why it is important that your body is using as much vitamin A as needed for renewal and normal growth of your skin cells. The vitamin A serves as antioxidant and keeps your skin supple and helps prevent damage. It also acts as nourishment to the fat layers found underneath your skin.

The ALA or Alpha Lipoid Acid

The ALA, or alphalipoic acid, is a great antioxidant supplement you can take along with other antioxidants such as the vitamins C, E, plus the coenzyme Q10. The ALA is an important component of your daily supplements as it not only serves as antioxidants in itself but forces other taken antioxidants to be recycled, thus better absorption of these substances. Other benefits of taking ALA are associated with heart disease and obesity. It is known to improve insulin resistance as well as act as anti-inflammatory agent.

There are more benefits. ALA helps detoxify metals accumulated by the body as well as boosts the rate of removal of the glucose from your bloodstream. And the main reason why it is an excellent anti-aging treatment for you, it helps stop the occurrence where the fibers are interlinked with each other, a known cause to lead aging and wrinkle formation.

While the body is capable of producing ALA, it is in very small amounts that only the cells are able to use it for the cellular energy production. The ALA serves the benefits as antioxidants only if being supplied into the body with more amount than those produced by the body for the cells. Unfortunately, production of ALA also declines just like the collagen and the elastin.

An ALA supplement is therefore important unless you are pregnant or undergoing breast feeding. It is suggested that a minimum of 50 up to 100mg of the antioxidant is enough to meet the dosage needs. Unlike the other antioxidants, the ALA is both water and fat soluble, which means it can be absorbed by all your body parts.

It has long been accepted and practiced that eating food with lots of anti oxidants slows down aging. This has been practiced even before the term anti-oxidants were used. Ancient Chinese (and even the Chinese of today) prescribes special food that will enhance an attribute, cure an ailment and improve metabolism or increase vitality and vigor. In India, certain herbs are mixed with their foods that are similar to the results that Chinese sought. The same goes with Brazilians and Peruvians.

While almost all plants have sterols that are good for the metabolism in the body, foods that are generally known to contain high concentration of antioxidants are usually those that are present in plants  and other fruits containing amino acids, omega 3,6, and 9, and other useful fatty acids. The category also includes those that contain high concentrations of resveratrol and glutathione. The presence of antioxidants in diets will help protect the cells of the body from free radicals and toxins.

This is so because anti oxidants work in a way that its molecules slow down and in some conditions, prevent the oxidation of other molecules. Anti-aging treatment preparations that contain anti oxidants often come in the form of capsules, tablets and energy drinks and other forms of dietary supplements.

Oxidation, while crucial at maintaining life, could be damaging. Animals and even plants maintain a high level and complex anti-oxidant systems in multiple types. Many of these types come from plants in the form of sterols and enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and other peroxides. The most common and readily available antioxidant though is the Vitamin C and the Vitamin E.

One of the tangible reasons that a person lacks antioxidants in the body is tiredness and stress. A body that lacks anti oxidants results to oxidative stress which damages and kills cells. Aside from anti oxidants being effective as anti-aging agents is its capacity to prevent a host of illnesses from occurring. Some types of anti-oxidants have demonstrated capacity to prevent the development of certain cancer cells, diabetes, heart ailments and other maladies. This is one of the reasons that foods that are high in anti-oxidant properties are highly sought after. Others are even in such a demand to command high prices.

Examples of foods that have vast concentration of antioxidant properties are coffee, grapes and berries. In fact the grapes in red wine have been known to have impressive anti-oxidizing properties that are usually attributed to the cause of the French being more fit in spite of the cholesterol rich food that they consume although the skin of the grape is the part that is truly rich in anti oxidants. Coffee has vast concentration too although what is mixed with the coffee is what causes the worry. The acai berry of Brazil is also widely advertised to have vast concentration of anti oxidant properties, pity that it is not consumed fresh in the rest of the world except Brazil.

In addition to its ability to repair and preserve cells making it an excellent anti aging agent, anti oxidants are also widely used as preservatives in food and cosmetics. Anti oxidants are also widely used in industrial applications where prevention of degradation is important.

Anybody with dull skin, no matter how pretty the face, will always appear haggard, tired and old. Dull skin has many different causes and not much of them are attributed to heredity. Lifestyle, diet, habits and the misuse and unsupervised application of anti-aging treatments are few of the causes. Of course there is also the issue of the genes but if we discount that for the moment, here are the following anti-aging treatments that address dull skin.

The Causes

While aging causes skin to dull that is mainly due to the skins slowing regenerative process, dull skin is also caused by fatigue and stress. Just as often the lack of vitamins and other essential nutrients, drinking alcohol, smoking, exposure extreme temperatures, frequent sun and wind exposure, slow blood circulation and sickness causes dull skin complexion.

The anti-aging treatments to livelier skin

Drink plenty of liquids. The body is composed largely of water. It expels plenty of them every day and consequently needs a lot to keep it working properly. Plenty of water and juices will keep the body hydrated. Sometimes, sweating alone could lively up the skin.

Food choices

Foods that are rich in amino and other fatty acids like berries and nuts help restore the glow to the skin. Sometimes though this is the instance when you could use fatty foods, dull skin complexion is also a sign of the body's deficiency in fats and oils.

Moisturize

Applying make-up before moisturizing the skin will ultimately result in dull complexion. Applying a make-up that is yellow based only make matters worse. Avoid them.

Exercise

There is no better way to make the skin lively than to conduct a more lively life. Sweating cleanses the pores and removes trapped dirt and even old skin. Exercise also excites the oil glands in the skin. When the oil from the body is moved out to the outer skin layers, it will coat the skin rejuvenating it and making it healthier.

Exfoliate

Our skin is replenished yearly but why wait that long. Exfoliating twice a week does the job well. Not exfoliating regularly is allowing the skin to accumulate the dead and dying cells in its surface dulling the skin. Not exfoliating regularly causes pores to be plugged by old oils in the skin that may already have accumulated enough dirt; ultimately, this will lead to black heads and unsightly unevenness of skin texture not to mention an unhealthy pallor.

Massages

Massaging the skin improves blood circulation. Facial muscles benefit much from this. Massaging the face with facial creams and massaging oils will improve the skin color, improve unsightly fleshiness, and will tighten the tissues and facial muscles.

Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion are good to brighten the complexion. Not to be confused with skin peels and exfoliation, microdermabrasion contains aluminum oxide crystals that cleans and removes surface dirt and dead cells and are effective at providing youthful looking skin.

Use Steam

Done once a week will be a very effective method at cleaning deep seated dirt and in loosening up debris that have been imbedded into the skin. It also removes traces of make up that have not been removed well. The heat will also open the pores of the skin clearing away and flushing out toxins.

Apply brightening masks

Brightening face masks are good at correcting irregularities in pigmentation and prevent the development of decolonization. What results is brighter and a very pleasant skin tone.

The pursuit for anti aging treatments was first recorded in ancient Egypt where potions were developed using natural cures and remedies like  olives and other common herbs to promote longevity and beauty though it would be safe to assume that it dates back farther than that. In other ancient cultures like India and China, it has long been a practice to alter eating habits, eating particular foods, drinking particular drinks, involving a different lifestyle and practicing certain activities to promote longevity and gain a sense of well being.

Then and now, the principles are the same though methods have altered mainly due to the application of technology and research-based applications. And so anti-aging treatments have a long way of history behind it, that as it has been proven before, it has been much improved today. Presently the scientifically-approved anti-aging methods involve the following therapies, medications and treatments:

* The use of anti-agers. An example of these is caloric restriction mimetic. The administration of CRM influences cell repair or cell deaths.  Melatonins are used to activate melatonin receptors and are powerful and pervasive anti oxidants.

* Antiglycators. A good example is Carnosine which contains powerful anti oxidants and boosts the energy. Excess dosage could result to hyperactivity. Other similar antiglycators are tenisletam, aminoguanadine and agebrium.

* Antioxidants. Vitamins are good sources of antioxidants so are foods containing resveratrol, co-enzyme Q10 and glutathione.

* Complementary treatments. Natural methods using plants and herbs with nutrients that protect against specific illnesses. Complementary treatments through natural methods are also some of the oldest in anti-aging therapy. Being natural, these are the safest and often the cheapest as they could be as natural as the food on the table.

* Cosmetics and Cosmetic Surgery. Deals with alteration and repair of skin and body defects that were caused by ageing, accidents and heredity. Collagen treatments, facelifts, botox, Isolagen, scar removal, rhinoplasty, lip repair, breast augmentation, and implants are only a few of the treatments that are offered. The objective being to revitalize, repair and recapture the youthfulness and glow thereby improving and enhancing a patients appearance and boosting the sense of well being.

* Hormonal treatments. These are anti-aging treatments that often require the administration of bio-identical hormones like DHEA, androgens, growth hormone, estrogens and testosterone that typically improves muscle tone vigor, vitality and sexual activity.

* Therapies such as treatments from stem cells, immune therapy and cell therapy.

* Lifestyle change or adaptation of lifestyle alternatives. These include stress-releasing exercises, physical exercises, brain exercises, health education, calorie restriction and diet management.

* Methylators. These are widely accepted to improve memory. Examples are the administration of SAMe and TMG.

* Nootropics. These are also anti-aging treatments that are widely used to improve memory and cognitive ability. It is also called study enhancers and smart drugs. Nootropics are also widely available through plants, fruits and herbs. Some of products and fruits that contain or are rich in nootropic properties are the ginkgo biloba, centrophenoxine, memantine, piracetam and bacopa.

* Technological advancements. Today anti-aging treatments are also applied in the likes of genetics, technology and nano technology.

Aside from this list, other medications therapies and anti-aging treatments that target very specific illnesses and defects are widely available albeit very highly specialized. In spite of different approaches, anti aging treatments tackles the same basic idea?to slow, prevent or reverse the effects of aging improving the quality of life of a person.

The most popular and quickest anti aging treatment so far is the application of cosmetics and cosmetic surgery.

The purpose of cosmetic surgery is to repair congenital defects and damage to the body. Due to accidents it has also gained great popularity repairing the results caused by aging. The popularity of this anti-aging treatment has resulted to very high standards of specialization. Medical practitioners in this field achieves a very high degree of requirement in training and must pass several tests and years of study before being eligible to be sponsored by a cosmetic surgeon who himself has had several years of formal cosmetic surgery practice. Only then could the recent practitioner be accepted into the American board of Cosmetic Surgeon.

Aside from reconstructive surgeries that are done usually on deformities, another result that cosmetic surgery achieves is the restoration of the youthful appearance of the body. Stretch marks, birthmarks, scars, skin toning and rejuvenation, are done through the use of either invasive or non invasive procedures.

This modern mode of anti-aging treatments basically involves the following steps:

The pre-operative interview where the best approach to the treatment are discussed, procedures are laid out, results and expectations are talked on and possibly some other issues whenever there are. Marking will also be done where the approach of the surgery will take place.

The surgery or the treatment which usually takes a couple of hours depending on the complexity of the procedure that is opted. Many cosmetic surgery procedures though could be done quickly inside an hour.

The recovery, again depending on the complexity and the age of the patient, recovery will vary from overnight to a couple of weeks and sometimes longer than that. Many procedures will enable the patient to get back to normal activities almost right after a moment of rest.

The follow up treatment is only done when there are a series of procedures that are planned or when the completion of treatment requires intervals of schedules.

The recent technological advances in this anti-aging treatment are such that many procedures that previously require invasive techniques are now replaced with treatments that will require no incisions. One greatest factor that this anti-aging treatment has become so popular is that aside from being generally safe, cosmetic surgery requires very little effort, demands very little from the body and delivers very fast and desirable results that are often long lasting.

Examples of the most popular anti-aging procedures are:

Skin treatments - Skin treatments are usually non invasive procedures that use laser treatments to stretch out the skin and to remove wrinkles. Skins that are badly damaged due to accidents and aging are restored to its attractive and youthful look.

Face Lift - Achieves a younger modern looking face and reshapes it also to create a more balanced look.

Blepharoplasty - Is done to eliminate the puffiness and the sagging around the eyes to arrive a rested, fresh and younger looking face.

Dermabrasion is an anti-aging treatment that eliminates skin damage, blotches and wrinkles through laser surgery and the use of chemical peels.

Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, is the anti-aging treatment that requires lighter chemical peels. These are non invasive procedures and require no recovery time.

The list of anti-aging treatment trough cosmetic surgery is still growing due to specialization. No matter, these procedures remain to be one of the most reliable anti aging treatments that are commonly resorted today.

It is inevitable that everybody faces a time when the use of anti-aging treatment products becomes the most viable option. As people age, it is impossible to conceal the fact that there are implications of aging, specifically when it comes to outer aspect of the body. The skin sags, develops lines, shows wrinkles, and becomes unattractive. Coincidentally, the first signs of aging start as early as on your late 20's, or if lucky, at 30's or 40's.

While for most people the use of anti-aging treatment comes during or between these times, it is more advisable that they use it even before there are signs showing. More beauty experts insist that doing so inhibits the early formation of aging signs such as crow's feet, laughter lines, fine lines, and sagging skin. By keeping a certain routine application of anti-aging treatment, it is also maintaining the youth in your skin, and more importantly, keeps it healthy; thus, delaying the aging effect as long as possible.

Don't Ignore First Signs of Aging

Most women ignore the appearance of the very first fine wrinkle lines. This is not advisable. Denial can be your worst possible action when this time comes in your life. As early as the first wrinkle lines appearance, it is recommended that it is fixed. Otherwise it can materialize into something more serious which most likely will need more complicated type of treatment. Selecting and applying of the right anti-aging treatment cream should help remove these lines and inhibit more lines from forming.

What Is the Role of Anti-aging Treatment Products?

Good anti-aging treatment creams or products contain important vitamins and nutrients which are proven to be effective in rejuvenating the skin. Aside from vitamin A, there are various vitamins and chemicals used in these products to help improve even more the look of aging and wrinkling skin. These components help boost collagen and elastin, the proteins that break down as people age therefore making skin sagging and wrinkling. Most of these anti-aging products contain ingredients that help develop and supply these proteins to your skin so that it becomes rejuvenated and healthy looking, while reducing the lines and wrinkles associated to old age.

Other Types of Anti-aging Treatments

Aside from anti-aging treatment creams and products, there are other forms which can remove wrinkle lines and help improve sagging skin. These are typically intended to treat seriously affected skin, such as those damaged not only by age but from the long exposure to sun and other elements of the environment.

Dermabrasion is well known anti-aging treatment and is considered one of the oldest treatments available. It has been originally intended to treat acne scars, however, after years of successful use, it is now used also to treat wrinkles as well as remove tattoos. Nowadays, laser dermabrasion is available and experts insist it is far more superior because of the laser's capability to facilitate more accurately.

Microdermabrasion is another treatment that utilizes fine crystal mists to smoothen skin and vacuum dead outer skin layers. It not only alleviates aging signs appearance but also treats age spots, sun-damaged layer, fine lines, and wrinkles in just about any type of aging skin and color.

Microdermabrasion was initially available only if you visit a qualified professional dermatologist. However, with the highly-advanced application of the technology, it is now possible for everyone to do it at the comfort of their home as microdermabrasion kits are now available for purchase.

The fluctuation of hormones is a sign that there is hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance affects the whole body resulting to mood swings, infertility and lack of sexual desire. Hormonal balance is very important especially in women. Hormonal balance includes the right concentration of estrogens androgens and testosterone. What this group basically and most popularly does is to improve vigor and vitality, tone the skin and muscles and boost energy and activity.

Because hormonal balance is so important in a women's well being, pharmaceutical companies have developed products that are advertised to restore the balance of the hormones in the system. However, synthetic hormones are not the best solution. Neither should it be opted if possible. Conventional HRT treatments have been linked to cause harmful side effects. Of particular interest are the DHEA treatments. With the DHEA treatments, it is proven that patients exhibit improvements in episodic memory even in young patients. It also provides a sense of well being that limits, if not controls, depressions and decreases the occurrence of evening cortisol.

DHEA is also used in the muscle building of athletes and DHEA supplements are used as performance enhancing drugs. It is also true that endogenous DHEA treatment has also shown to restore oxidative balance on diabetic patients. The down side though are that clinical reports shows a direct correlation between DHEA treatments with the development of breast cancers, ovarian cancers, coronary heart diseases and abnormalities in blood clotting. The less risky approach to anti-aging treatment that will get you back a hormonal balance is:

Lifestyle Change - Stress does not only make a person look old it also robs the person of hormonal balance. Conscious effort then must be made so that stresses are limited to the minimum. Diets could also be changed to include maca, rice, yams, alfalfa, oat, soy, apples, cherries and wheat as these are estrogen rich foods. Often though, changing a lifestyle is only good during planning. Anything that involves a change from what used to be the norm will be bound to be difficult and could fail. If this were the case consider the following.

Alternative Medicine - Old practices are having resurgence in popularity. For one they are really very effective although previously regarded as old school. Second, they have been proven through time that being natural also means that they are safe. Herbal remedies top the list here for providing and improving the hormone balance in the body. Examples of herbs rich in phytoestrogen are dong quai and the black cohosh. These are also the safest, most effective and least expensive. Next is acupuncture. Acupuncture is a method that search for energy pathways in the body by inserting sterile needles. If this one still turns you off, and you need hormone treatments fast, the following may be the only resort.

Drugs and Surgery - Hormone replacement therapy or HRT is the most common. However, this should always be (as mentioned earlier) your last resort due to unfortunate incidence of side effects that result from this treatments.

The three approaches though could be worked out in combination, could be done on different times or could be combined at the same time. Change lifestyle where applicable and practicable and take alternative medicine whenever available. Drugs and surgery could be resorted to only in extreme circumstances but find a good physician.

Aside from wrinkles, sagging facial muscles and the tired haggard look, one of the most obvious manifestations of looking aged is graying hair. The sad part of it is that it affects men and women alike and could happen at any age.  This may probably be the reason that many anti-aging treatments especially hair dyes were formulated ling before most anti aging treatments came to be. With rapid advances in science though, gray hair treatments are today not only limited to the manufacture and sales of hair dyes. There are several approaches that could be resorted to in combating the onset of graying hair.

Henna and sage are the best examples for these.

Medical Treatments

What gives the hair color is the amount or the concentration of melanin that is present in the body. Melanin gives skin color as well as hair color. It is also a determinant whether a person will tan or burn in the sun. The production of melanin in the body slows down as a person ages. The purpose of medical treatments for graying hair is to reverse the slowing down process of melanin. Drugs are applied to reverse the depigmentation some of the drugs used are Auxins, Imatinib Mesylate and Gleever. These drugs are always dispensed by qualified physicians as others may cause side effects, are not commercially available or are in fact treatments that were originally intended for other ailments.
